Fort Edwards V.C.

Fort Edwards
Capon Bridge, West Virginia

During the early years of the French and Indian War Col. George Washington was given the responsibility of protecting the Virginia frontier. He established a chain of forts for his Virginia Regiment along the western edge of the colony. The fort at Joseph Edwards's home on the Cacapon River was one of these western forts guarding the road from Ft. Loudoun to the forts of the South Branch River valley.
