Planning for the Future

As the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the French and Indian War approaches, The Fort Edwards Foundation is initiating several projects that have been in the planning stages for some time. We expect that national interest will increase for this little-known era of American history. As people seek out sites where they can learn about this most critical war that prepared the way for the American Revolution, we wish to be prepared to handle large groups of visitors.

We have several projects that we will complete or that have been initiated and await funding. These projects include:

  • Hiring of a full-time Director
  • Enlargement of the Parking Area
  • Addition of a Museum and Instructional Wing
  • Creation of more School and Adult Programs
  • Construction of a fort replica (now under construction)

Please note we have completed the:
  • Memorial Brick Patio
  • Kitchen Garden
  • Construction of an outdoor shelter-pavillion
  • The drawing above is a rough sketch of the planned Visitor Center expansion. The white area on the left is the current Visitor Center which will become retail space and office space. The current men's restroom will become the handicapped restroom. The new addition will house larger restrooms, a small kitchen for making meals during our festivals and special events. It will also have larger display areas and an audio-visual presentation area. There will be storage and office space on the second floor. For other views of the Museum addition click here.

These are very ambitious and expensive projects. They will require not only money, but volunteer time and labor. We invite your participation in these projects. Please consider a membership in The Foundation or a financial contribution. We expect the Director to cost us up to $40,000 a year for the first two years; we have received $10,000 toward this goal. The museum addition can run anywhere from $450,000 to $700,000. The garden, patio and parking areas are already funded. The fort reproduction is not yet determined; it will be built in stages as archaeological investigation reveals more of its character.

There is a membership application on the link shown below. If you would like to make a special gift to The Fort Edwards Foundation, please contact one of our officers. See the "Contact" page on this site. Thank you for your interest.
